Late Dinner Does Not Contribute To Childhood Obesity; 3 Factors Behind The Obesity Pandemic

Obesity is a growing concern among children, teens and adults. Often we are told not to eat late because it will make us fat. However, according to a new study, late dinner does not contribute to childhood obesity.

Late Dinner Don't Make You Fat

If you will talk to someone who wants to lose weight, you will often hear them staying away from late dinners. Dinner as late as six p.m. is often recommended. In fact, there is diet called "6 p.m." which suggests that you can eat anything you want as long as you do not eat after six in the evening.

However, there is no truth to reports claiming that having late dinner can make you fat or obese. A recent study debunked this myth.

According to Food Navigator, a group of researchers at King's College London examined the food diaries of 1,620 children. Of the sample, 768 children were between 4 to 10 years old and 852 were between 11 and 18 years old. The meal diary was used to assess the children's meal timings for four days.

Dr. Gerda Pot, lead author admitted that they initially thought that there is a link between eating later and being overweight but their study did not support it. However, she explained that it could be due to the limited number of children consuming dinner after 8 p.m.

Factors That Makes Obesity Pandemic

There is no doubt that obesity is a serious matter worldwide and we should recognize the force behind this Per the Royal Gazette, the following is the factors behind the obesity pandemic.

1. Sedentary Lifestyle - Our lifestyle has changed tremendously. We can almost do anything while sitting. For instance, before, people walk for transportation, but today commuting is easier because there are lots of cars, trains and elevators that make our lives easier and our weight heavier. In fact, some opt to take a ride even if their destination is only a few kilometers away.

2. Abundance of Unhealthy and Cheap Food - If you are on a budget, you will probably agree that getting a meal from a fast food chain is more affordable than getting a decent meal with fruits and vegetables. Yes, chips are cheaper than fruits. Unfortunately, processed foods are unhealthy and our bodies paid the price.

3. State of Mind - A person's state of mind affects his eating habits. For instance, some people who are stressed, anxious or depressed struggles to control their food consumption. Have you heard about emotional eating or binge eating disorder? Yes, your relationship with food matters.
