SpaceX Making Plans to Conquer Mars, More Details to Come in Two Years time

Space Exploration Technologies Corporation or better known as SpaceX is planning to get to Mars in 2018. This may be an easier task compared to landing on it with humans along with it. Let's take on a short replay on their noteworthy achievements in technology over the years and see how it has become so.

Elon Musk's private company will be using the Dragon 2 spacecraft to usher the first humans to step on Mars and return them home. Well, more like Earth-to-Mars postal service. The said spacecraft has been making trips, taking humans to International Space Station (ISS) since 2012, this according to Science Alert.

To launch Dragon 2 to ISS, it is boosted by Falcon 9 rocket - which is actually reusable. One Falcon 9 rocket successfully landed back on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean last week, putting on a mark for their third success.

Scientists and experts have been eyeing on getting humans to Mars. But the Red Planet is hundreds of thousands away from the ISS. Not to mention that there are huge amount of conditions to consider. Here's how:

In a sense, as the Business Insider explains, the Dragon 2 spacecraft needs about three Falcon 9 boosters strapped together sufficient to land on Mars and bring home our astronauts. The real challenge here is the landing.

Mars' atmosphere is 1000 times thinner, so parachutes are of no use to slow it down for safe landing. In addition, the other concerns are surviving the pressure-cooker-heat and gravity which is about 60% lower than Earth's.

The company though is currently moving forward, confidently working on the Falcon Heavy which has the equivalent of three Falcon 9 boosters and capable of sending almost 30,000lbs payload to Mars. This is to combine and advance with the Dragon 2 spacecraft's technology.
