'Mirror's Edge: Catalyst' Delivers on What Fans Hoped For, But Not All of Them

When "Mirror's Edge" was first released way back in 2008, there were a lot of skeptics about its gameplay mechanics, but luckily a large amount of those skeptics were eventually turned into fans. These fans were left waiting for a sequel to the revolutionary video game and years later they got just that.

"Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" might have come out 8 years after the original game, but that did not stop fans from flocking to their local video game stores to get their hands on it. With improved parkour mechanics, even newer video game enthusiasts can enjoy playing in the city of Glass. There are more ways to get around the city now including rolling, sliding, wall running, and later in the game, the use of a grappling hook.

Glass has now been converted to more of an open world, doing without conveniently placed platforms to show the player where to go. Now, the player can choose his or her own path to give a greater degree of freedom to choose how the game is played, says WCCF Tech. This could also make the game a lot more difficult if the player is up for a challenge.

One of the biggest complaints about the original game is that the main character Faith gets a gun to battle enemies with, which kind of defeats the purpose of using stealth to evade enemies and using your parkour skills to escape them when you are detected. What the sequel does right is that it never gives you a gun at any point in the game, a fact lauded by both fans and critics alike.

There are a number of publications that have given favorable reviews for "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst." On the other hand, there are also those who think that the pace of the game is too slow, such as the review from the A.V. Club.
