"Finding Dory" Set to Have the Highest Grossing Opening Weekend Of Any Animated Film Ever

"Finding Nemo" has become one of Disney Pixar's most iconic films, which is why when the sequel "Finding Dory" was announced, fans became pretty excited. Because of this, it may come as no surprise that "Finding Dory" is currently on track to have the biggest-selling animated film debut in the history of the genre.

"Finding Nemo" first broke this record and years later this record was once again beaten by one of Pixar's own offerings in "Toy Story 3" when it was released in 2010. According to reports from Variety, the influx of earnings from "Finding Dory" is so fast that early estimates say that it will make a mind-boggling $130 million in just its opening weekend.

Most people would think that most of the films in the list of highest grossing animated features in their respective opening weekend are from the Disney Pixar studio that now includes "Finding Dory." In fact, there is only one Pixar movie in the top three, with the previously mentioned "Toy Story 3" coming in the third spot with $110 million. "Shrek the Third" is first on this list with $121.6 million and "Minions" comes in second with $115.7 million.

If the "Finding Nemo" sequel does reach its estimated opening weekend revenue of $130 million, it would put it as the second biggest of the year behind "Captain America: Civil War." The superhero movie made a huge $179 million within its opening weekend. The "Captain America" sequel's opening weekend revenue is in the fifth spot of all-time.

Reports from The Independent say that the US box office has been experiencing a slump over the past few years. So this surely is good news for investors and the people in the making of these films. "Finding Dory is expected to make even more money over its run, especially since it has yet to be released in other major territories such as the U.K.
