The future of "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 is still up in the air, as Showtime is still mum about the show's renewal for Season 4. According to Carter Matt, the reason behind the network's delay in issuing an official renewal order for the series may be due to the show's ratings.

"Penny Dreadful" has only received average ratings throughout its past three seasons on TV. Add this to the fact that the show might be canceled following the death of Eva Green's character, Vanessa Ives.

"Penny Dreadful" Season 4 will help provide closure to some loose ends to the series and it may also give fans enough time to say goodbye to their favorite literary characters. In a recent interview with Observer Culture, actor Shazad Latif revealed that the show will hopefully explore Jekyll's other side, Mr. Hyde, in the upcoming season.

The actor also revealed that he is aware of the popular notion on the Internet about a possible romance between Jekyll and Frankenstein in "Penny Dreadful" Season 4. However, Latif admitted that a romance between these two is highly unlikely to happen.

"I think that first scene, where Jekyll sees Frankenstein's lab, there was a closeness and intensity that could have been mistaken for that," he said. "But there is not a romantic relationship."
