'Best Bald Dad' Award Goes To Josh Marshall After Tattooing Cancer Scar Of Son On Side Of His Head

An eight-year-old boy was left with a huge scar on the right side of his head after undergoing surgery for brain cancer and his father wanted to make him feel indifferent by getting a tattoo just like the mark on his son's head making him win a contest and his story going viral.

The eight-year-old boy, identified as Gabriel Marshall, has lost his confidence and told his father that his scar has made him feel like a monster. His father, Josh Marshall, then felt like getting a tattoo similar to his son's scar would be what it take to boost Gabriel's self-confidence, Mashable reported.

The images of the tattoo started to gain attention via social media when he entered the photo for the competition set up by St. Baldricks Foundation. The competition was for the Best Bald Dad of 2016 and it includes men shaving their head in an attempt to raise awareness and funding for childhood cancer and research.

Josh wrote in the caption upon entering the competition: "Got my son's scar tattooed to help his self-confidence." The photo has had over five thousand likes making them win the competition. Josh took to Facebook to thank everyone for making him win the competition noting that he is honored to be titled 2016's Best Bald Dad. He also wrote that he is no better than any other contestants as they are all great fathers that would "go to any extent to help our children, so in my eyes we're all winners."

He also shared a post from Inked Magazine featuring his photo. He took to Facebook to say that he never imagined his picture with his son would be so viral and would blow up like it did. It initially appeared on the Instagram account bamf_nation and has since received over 138,000 likes.

In another interview, Josh said that it broke his hear that his son thought he looked like a monster because of the scar. Josh told BuzzFeed News, "This broke my heart ... I told him if people wanted to stare, they could stare at both of us."
Gabriel was said to be diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma, a rare malignant brain tumor. He was diagnosed back in March of 2015. Gabriel still has some of the tumor on his brain but the latest scans indicate that the boy is now stable.
