Thandie Newton Reveals That She Was Sexually Harassed During an Audition: Was Asked To Touch Private Parts, Do We Know Who The Director Is?

Thandie Newton has revealed that she was abused sexually by a director during an audition. This was during the early years of her career. She stated this during one of her interviews with W Magazine.

The actress, who bagged roles in widely acclaimed movies like Pursuit of Happyness, opened up about her past. It revealed that Thandie Newton's past wasn't a rosy one. It was traumatic indeed.

The 43-year-old actress also explained why she has taken up tougher roles in many of her movies including For Colored Girls and Crash.

"A director, on a callback, had a camera shooting up my skirt and asked me to touch my t--ts and think about the guy making love to me in the scene," she recalled her experience. "I thought, 'OK, this is a little weird,' but there was a female casting director in the room and I'd done weird stuff before so I did it," she added in the interview which went online on June 29.

Thandie Newton did not name the director or the film that she was auditioning for, US Magazine said.

The actress claimed that years later a producer came up to her and told that he had 'seen' her recently. The producer was drunk at that time. He seemed appalled at having said that later.

Thandie Newton told the magazine that after being questioned by her husband, Ol Parker, the producer revealed that her 'audition video' is doing rounds at poker game tables. The director has been showing it off to his friends.

Thandie Newton admits that she had been naïve when she started acting. She also states that she has to prepare her two beautiful daughters to face 'such' people. She wished that at least one person who reads about her experience and avoids being sexually assaulted is the person she is interested in, reported US Magazine.
