Lose Weight And Double Your Pregnancy Chances

Women who are having a hard time getting pregnant can double their chances of getting pregnant through natural means after losing weight according to a Dutch study. The study's subjects were 577 women who have fertility problems and are overweight or obese.

According to Daily Mail, the researchers gave half of the women who wanted to get pregnant advice on how to lose weight through proper diet and exercise. They were also given the goal of losing five percent of their body weight. The women lost 9.5 pounds on average in six months.

Chances Of Getting Pregnant Differed

The two groups of women were compared two years later on their chances of getting pregnant after the weight loss intervention or the lack thereof. The women who were on a diet posted greater chances of getting pregnant, according to The Telegraph.

The women who had lost weight had a 25 percent chance of getting pregnant. This is compared to the lower 12.6 percent chance of getting pregnant for the women who did not undergo a diet. Women who were put on a diet reportedly had personalized coaching from specially trained nurses.

Don't Overexert Yourself To Get Pregnant

"This is an important study, in that it does throw an emphasis on the importance of pre-conceptional care, of which losing weight in obese women is just one. You should not just go on a huge crash diet and reduce your calories to almost zero," Prof. Nick Macklon was quoted by a report in Mirror as saying. Macklon teaches obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Southampton.

According to the report, experts said that losing weight could help reduce insulin resistance and this can help restore fertility. The pregnancy and weight loss study was done by the University Medical Center in Groningen in Netherlands. There were 23 fertility centers that took part in the study.
