LGBT Coming Out: 16-Year-Old Surprises Mom With 'I'm Gay!' Sign At Disneyland Splash Mountain Ride [PHOTO]

Gina, a 16-year-old teenager, wanted her coming out to be without any drama. While on a ride at Disneyland Splash Mountain with her mom, she planned the perfect way to tell her. She held up a sign that read "I'm Gay!" just when the famous Splash Mountain camera took their photo souvenir.

When she and her mom got off the ride, Gina showed her the photo. She posted this on her Twitter profile as well, where it continues to generate thousands of likes, shares and comments in support of her coming out.

Buzzfeed reports that when Gina's mother saw the photo, she immediately sent this to the rest of the family, who were all "positive" about her coming out. Gina also revealed that her brother and father already guessed that she is gay, but her mother was completely in the dark.

Huffington reports that her mother actually thought Gina had splashed the sign to show her support for the Orlando shooting victims. But then, realizing what it really meant, her mom did the next best thing --- she gave her daughter a big hug. "[She] told me she was proud of me!" Gina said.

Gina also decided to come out at Disneyland because she considers this "a place where anyone can be themselves and be accepted for it." The teenager feels overwhelmed with all the support, but she acknowledges that she is a lucky person for receiving so much acceptance.

Gina is one of the many teenagers deciding to come out as gay. According to a research and trend forecast conducted by the J. Walter Thompson Innovation Group, about 48 percent of kids between the ages of 13 to 20 identify as completely heterosexual, while at least a third identify as bisexual. The younger generation is also more open to gender fluidity than those in their mid-20s and older, per Vice.
