Following the disappointments over the possible unveiling of "Red Dead Redemption 2" during the E3 2016 event in Los Angeles last month, avid "RDR" fans are still hopeful for the possibility of a prequel or sequel of the game. As they patiently wait for "RDR 2," Rockstar Games is offering an "RDR" Xbox One for Xbox 360 owners.

Xbox One Backward Compatibility For 'Red Dead Redemption'

On Tuesday, Jul. 5, both Rockstar Games and Xbox's Larry Hryb made the announcement on Twitter that "Red Dead Redemption" will be launched on Xbox One via the backwards compatibility program. According to Daily Express, "Red Dead Redemption" is one of the top titles to be included, along with "Bioshock Infinite," "Bioshock," "Bioshock 2" and "Skate 2."

The Xbox One Backward Compatibility confirmation for "Red Dead Redemption" came after the possibility was leaked earlier this year. It was made available briefly but access was later removed, noting a testing error, IGN notes.

"Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles," Hryb explained at the time. "Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon."

'Red Dead Redemption 2' Still Possible?

Despite the fact that "Red Dead Redemption 2" release remains uncertain, several "RDR" fans are still hoping for a potential prequel or sequel. And with the recent Xbox One Backward Compatibility, many believed that Rockstar Games may have some plans for another "RDR" installment, noting the reported map leaks.

In addition, rumors have it that "Red Dead Redemption" recent backward compatibility update may be a promotional strategy for the much-anticipated, unofficial and unconfirmed sequel, The Verge hints. The publication also added that Take-Two Interactive CEO CEO Strauss Zelnick had confirmed that "Red Dead Redemption" is a permanent franchise.

Meanwhile, "Red Dead Redemption" is currently available on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game's arrival on Xbox One's backward compatibility program is scheduled on Friday, Jul. 8, GameRant learns.
