‘Scandal’ Season 6 Premiere Date, Spoilers, Latest News & Updates: New Season Hinting The Possibility Of A Love Triangle? Ultimate Father-Daughter Battle Between Liv And Rowan Looms

Following the fifth season finale of "Scandal" back in May, diehard fans will still have to wait until mid-2017 for the television comeback of ABC's political drama series. However, the filming for the upcoming season will reportedly begin this July despite the fact that lead star Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia Pope, is pregnant with her second child.

Earlier this year, ABC announced that "Scandal" season 6 premiere will be delayed to midseason of 2017. Along with the delay, it was also revealed that episode order for the upcoming season has been reduced to 16 episodes, instead of the previous plans of 22 episodes, TVLine notes.

As fans await the premiere of "Scandal" season 6, below are some interesting things you may see in the upcoming season. Fans may also want to check out ABC's newest series, "Notorious," which will occupy "Scandal" regular timeslot this fall.

Liv Vs. Rowan In 'Scandal' Season 6

In the upcoming "Scandal" season 6, fans may get a glimpse into the ultimate father-and-daughter faceoff between Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Rowan (Joe Morton). According to Ecumenical News, Rowan's hidden agenda will also be revealed in "Scandal" season 6, which will definitely ignite the tension between Liv and Rowan.

"It's a crazy conundrum," Scott Foley (who plays Jake's character) told Variety. "The fact that she came up with this idea of saving Jake right in front of his face, I thought was really smart. But, turns out, it's sort of what Rowan has wanted all along - getting back into the Oval and getting the position of power, and now it looks like that's through both Olivia and Jake. That's a really interesting storyline that hopefully will play out in Season 6."

The Jake-Liv-Fitz's Love Triangle In 'Scandal' Season 6

"Scandal" season 6 producer and creator Shonda Rhimes has previously hinted that President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) will launch a foundation after he steps down from his position as the head of state. Since Fitz won't be that busy anymore, Rhimes teased the possibility of a reconciliation between ex-lovers Fitz and Liv as he's determined to win her back again.

Unfortunately, Foley is confident that Liv has already chosen Jake. In fact, Foley mentioned the fact that Liv has made it clear in the previous season where she concocted a plan to run away with Jake, however, it was thwarted by Rowan, Latin Times reveals.

"I'm going to be very unpopular in saying this: I think Olivia has chosen Jake," Foley told Entertainment Weekly. "There is no question in my mind that she's chosen Jake."

Olivia Pope To Have A Baby In 'Scandal' Season 6?

Despite Kerry Washington's growing baby bump, the 39-year-old actress said that her pregnancy won't be written as part of "Scandal" season 6 storyline. In an interview with E! News, Washington said the "Scandal" team will try to hide the pregnancy just like on its third season where she was pregnant with her first child.

"As far as I know, we're going to be hiding things," Washington told the publication during the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Golf Classic. "But stay tuned!"

Meanwhile, "Scandal" season 6 is expected to premiere mid-2017 on ABC. It will continue to air at 9 p.m. timeslot every Thursdays.
