SDCC: Sonic Mania Is Back, And It Looks So Good!

Another one of San Diego Comic Con highlights this year featured noted game publisher Sega announcing the return of Sonic Mania. That's right, the speed-racing Sonic the Hedgehog is heading to gaming consoles next year!

To celebrate the spiky hedgehog's 25th anniversary, Pagodawest and Headcannon games have joined Sonic fangame lead developer Christian Whitehead in coming up with two new Sonic games, according to PC Gamer. It looks like Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a series of cool, new upgrades for its upcoming 2017 game sequels.

SDCC attendees have been given a generous glimpse of what to expect for the new Sonic the Hedgehog games. Sonic Mania was first revealed as one of the two games, and would be featured as part of Project Sonic 2017.

Sonic the Hedgehog's comeback in Sonic Mania would have fans reliving those thrilling moments in a 2D version, just like the legacy Sonic the Hedgehog games. New moves as well added zones are said to be part of Sonic Mania, which is set to be a reinvention of the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games.

Sonic Mania would also be playable in PC, as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gaming consoles. Takashi Iizuka, Sonic the Hedgehog series producer, further stated that the new game erupted as a result of classic Sonic fans' love of the series.

Aside from Sonic's classic moves, the spin dash and spin attack, Sonic Mania would also do the drop dash move - allowing the player to instantaneously dash in a rolling spin attack move following landing from jumps.

Another Sonic the Hedgehog untitled game which would be out together with Sonic Mania, is a 3D version and would have a modern-retro vibe. The yet-to-be-named Sonic the Hedgehog 3D game is also going to be a new adventure against Eggman.

Get set, ready, and GO for Sonic Mania 2017!
