Naming Your Baby: See The Most Popular Baby Names This Summer

Baby name site Newberry recently released the 20 most popular baby names in the United States this summer. These 20 names for baby girls and boys were the ones who made exponential leaps from the same period last year. See if these names, some inspired by popular culture, nature and the Bible are the same ones you've been thinking of.

For girls, Thomasin grabbed the top spot. According to Nameberry, Thomasin, or the female version of Thomas, amazingly rose up a total of more than 1000 percent this summer. It was cited that the name Thomasin is the central character of the movie, The Witch.

Coming up on second for the girls is Leire, which also had a dramatic rise of 850 percent from last summer. The baby name site said it the rise was probably due to singer Leire Martinez.  The third spot was taken by Rae, which is said to be a name that "fell off the US list a generation ago" but has now jumped to 425 percent.

Eden, Wren, Ruby, Cala took the next four spots. According to Yahoo, they jumped over 350 percent, by 260 percent, 250 percent and 225 percent since last summer. The last three names for the top 10 most popular baby girl names this summer are Bernice, Vega and Francine, all rising by an impressive 200 percent.

Now for the boys! Today reported that Kylo, which took the first place, jumped by nearly 1500 percent this summer backed by the Star Wars character of the same name. Corin was a surprise second, rising by 500 percent even if it was a name reportedly given to only 23 babies last year. Rex was third, up by almost 300 percent in Nameberry's listings.

Colm, Oak, Jace, and Theo, took the 4th to 7th spots in the Top 10, garnering a rise in the rankings by over 250 percent, over 230 percent, over 200 percent and by 184 percent, respectively. Dane, Orion, Jude rounded up the top 10 most popular baby names for boys this summer, with a jump of more than 160 percent, by 134 percent and by 130 percent. All percentages refer to the page views of each name.
