Autism Facts: Stress Relievers for Parents Include Journal Writing - How to Start a Journal?

Seeing a son or daughter inflicted with autism breaks any parent's heart. There's nothing more hurtful than imagining your offspring's life full of struggles.

Having a child with a neurological disorder is not something to immensely fear. Rest easy as there is a way for you to relive yourself from worries.

Lifehacker.com article cited that journal writing brings about a healthier mental state for just about anybody. Therefore, it is safe to say that journal writing is an excellent outlet for autistic kids' moms to ease their anxiety. What's more, moms may even get to reflect on how to relate to their extraordinary kids thanks to journal writing!

As reported in Psychcentral, moms can better manage stressors and daily situations by releasing their emotions. One of the ways mothers of autistic children release emotions is via journal writing. Moms do not need to receive any response with regard their journal's contents as they simply need to release their heartfelt emotions.

The founder of an occupational therapy program in New York state's Clarkson University, Dr. Rondalyn V. Whitney, gave this argument as to why moms of autistic kids need to write frequently, "Journal writing is one of their [moms] tools in their toolkit, and it helps them find meaningful coping strategies."

It's also important to note that autistic children do not relate well to moms who are stressed out. Hence, the importance of journal writing for these moms stands out. "High maternal stress causes paternal stress, and high maternal stress decreases the child's ability to benefit from treatment," Whitney stated.

According to Whitney, kids with autism don't like to be blamed for their moms' burdens. She said, "There was a shift in what the mothers attributed the stress to. Instead of saying, 'My stress is due to being a mother,' it shifts to, 'I have a stressful life.'"

Maternal love for special kids never ceases for these moms. Whitney did stated that "the mothers really love these children, but they feel alone in that understanding of their child."

So, as a mom to a child with autism, now is the best time to start your journal writing assignment. The New York Daily News reported that April has been named as Autism Awareness Month.

Start your writing assignment by labeling your notebook's pages. Label them with tasks in highest to lowest priorities. In no time, you'll likely see yourself managing parental duties for your special kids better.
