'The Leftovers' Season 3 Air Date, Spoilers & News: Matt Jamison Dies? Christopher Eccleston Opposes Character's Death

"The Leftovers" Season 3 is halfway through its filming on location in Melbourne, Australia. One of its stars, Christopher Eccleston, took time to talk about the show and his character, the preacher Matt Jamison.

Last season on "The Leftovers" placed Matt in the most unfortunate circumstance, as he was separated and not allowed to join his ailing wife in Jarden due to a misunderstanding with one of the residents, John (Kevin Carrol). Although he did make it back and holed up at the Garvey's house, Christopher Eccleston reveals he's not yet sure of his character's actual fate in "The Leftovers" Season 3.

However, when asked if Matt Jamison could potentially die when the show ends, the actor was quick to protest against such an idea. "Let's be honest, why would you ever kill me?" Christopher Eccleston told The Guardian in the interview.

He also disagrees with the general perception that Matt has one of the worst predicaments in the show. He said that he puts so much trust on the writers of the show, regardless of how his character will turn out. But knowing that this is going to be the final season for "The Leftovers" breaks his heart and he's sure he'll miss working on it.

Meanwhile, HBO has confirmed "The Leftovers" Season 3 will be taking over the slot that "Game of Thrones" usually occupy during its spring run. As Parent Herald previously reported, this might improve the chances of the show finally getting recognized at the Emmy Awards. Though it's the favorite of critics, "The Leftovers" has been quite underrated by TV's most prestigious award-giving body. "The Leftovers" Season 3 could finally end the drought and get the honor it deserves.

Other than Eccleston and Carrol, "The Leftovers" features an ensemble cast with Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman and Regina King. The show is about the lives of people left behind after a worldwide phenomenon that resulted in the mysterious disappearance of their loved-ones. The show is based on the novel of the same name, written by Tom Perrotta, who created the TV show with Damon Lindelof.
