‘Young and Restless’ Star Justin Hartley Quitting? ‘This Is Us’ Comes As Priority? Y&R Looking For New Adam

Justin Hartley has landed a role in the much-anticipated "This Is Us," and with the amount of buzz surrounding his new show and the prospect of becoming a hit, it looks like the actor would have to quit "The Young and the Restless." Is Y&R already looking for a new Adam Newman?

In an interview with Michael Fairman, Justin Hartley admits that he doesn't think he can't do both "The Young and the Restless" and "This Is Us" at the same time. The 39-year-old actor said, "I'm going to have to do this for a little bit here. There's a definitely a break (at Y&R). I don't know if I can (do both shows). I try to stay out of that, and gladly don't wear that hat."

Hartley is also doing ABC's "Mistresses," but as it seems, he may prioritize "This Is Us." He told Fairman, "When this came down the pike, my friend Michael Rady gave me the script and said, 'You've got to read this thing.' I knew I had to do it. I knew I needed to do everything I could possibly do to try to get this part. This show is so special. The episodes I've read are just getting better, if that's possible. I 'm in love with it so I knew I had to do it."

Justin Hartley's fans would be disappointed to see him leave his role as Adam Newman in CBS' "The Young and the Restless," which he has made his own since taking over from Michael Muhney. But as Celeb Dirty Laundry noted, "This Is Us" could propel Hartley's career beyond soaps and "Mistresses" given the popularity of the new show. "This Is Us" trailer has been viewed over 90 million times already, which is a record for a new show.

While the daytime soap could kill off Adam Newman's character, it may also go for another recast. CDL earlier reported that "The Young and the Restless" did a screen test with Melissa Claire Egan and Aiden Turner. It sparked the speculations that Turner would possibly take over Justin Hartley's role.

What do you think about Justin Hartley leaving "The Young and the Restless"? Will CBS and NBC let him do both shows?

"This Is Us" is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. on NBC after "The Voice." "The Young and the Restless" airs every weekday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
