Green Day New Song 2016: [LISTEN] Gun Violence Protest Song 'Bang Bang'

Green Day's new song 2016 was dished out by the American punk rock band casually on Thursday, sending punk fans excited all over social media. Titled "Bang Bang," the song's lyrics harken back to the band's "American Idiot" era with its social commentary about gun violence.

The Green Day new song 2016 will serve as the first single from the group's upcoming twelfth studio album "Revolution Radio," due for release on Friday, October 7, Entertainment Weekly reported. Much of the album's songs were recorded in Oakland, California, where the members of the band live.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, the band's lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong spoke extensively about what inspired him and the other members to write the Green Day new song 2016, "Bang Bang." "Yeah. It's about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media. There's this sort of rage happening, but it's also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance." He also narrated that he was angered by the prosecution's failure to indict a police officer for the murder of Michael Brown in 2012. This inspired the writing of another Green Day new son 2016, which ended up becoming the album's title track.

The release of Green Day new song 2016 signals the start of the promotional season in support of their first album since 2012. They last released music in December with the Christmas song "Xmas Time of the Year." Even going further than that, their last major music project for mainstream and rock audiences was the trio of albums "¡Uno!," "¡Dos!,"  ¡Tré!."
