'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Update: Kim Richards in Rehab; 'Humiliated Her Kids' & 'Wants to Avoid Jail'

Reality TV star Kim Richards has finally entered a rehabilitation center. After her arrest at the Beverly Hills Hotel for public intoxication last April 16, the mother of four decided it is time to check into a facility.

A source told People Magazine that the celebrity finally caved because the arrest was an eye-opener and it humiliated her children. The same source also said that, "If the arrest hadn't happened she wouldn't be going to rehab; it would be business as usual. She's in denial that she has a problem." Kim allegedly wanted to avoid going to jail.

This news comes at the right time when Kim's interview with Dr. Phil is set to be aired in a few days where she spoke about her arrest in detail with the TV psychologist. Teasers to the episode showed that it is expected to be a highly emotional moment, with Dr. Phil telling Kim, "You are drunk in a bar fighting with a cop. That is not good mothering."

Kim walked out of the interview during one segment upon sensing that an intervention was going to take place, according to Entertainment Weekly. Her children Brooke, 29, Kimberly, 20, and Chad, 22, were present when she faced Dr. Phil. Her other daughter, Whitney, 23, was not around. When Kim walked out on the set, her children pleaded for her to return, so that she can get help.

The incident last April 16 showed Kim "displaying symptoms of alcohol intoxication including slurred speech and belligerent insolent behavior cursing at the officers and passively resisted arrest," according to the police statement published on People. Her aggressive behavior the night of her arrest led her to challenge one of the officers to a fight as well. A friend said via People that Kim is under a lot of stress stemming from family problems. Her ex-husband, Monty Brinson, has stage four cancer and Kim has been taking care of him.

On her series, "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," the former child star was said to be often told off by her co-stars for her problems with alcohol, according to Daily Mail. However, this is not the first time the 50-year-old mom went to rehab for her problems. The same EW report says that over four years ago, her sister Kyle Richards revealed in a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest that Kim was in a treatment facility for substance abuse. Four years later and Kim finds herself in the same predicament. According to In Touch Weekly, Kim has checked in to a live-in facility based in Malibu this time around.
