Parenting Latest News & Updates: Does A ‘Sense Of Balance’ Exist In Parenting?

With the emergence of various parenting books and online sites, parents have more than enough resources when it comes to helpful and effective child rearing tips, advices and practices. But due to a lot of parenting styles and trends, parents can sometimes get confuse and lose the state of equilibrium in their lives.

According to Houston Chronicle, one's parenting style plays an important role in child growth and development as its effectiveness make a family work well while providing a positive impact on a child's happiness. Due to the significant role of parenting styles in child rearing, some parents make parenting a top priority, devoting 100 percent of their time and attention to their children.

As parents devote most if not all of their time in raising their children, they often tend to forget to take care of themselves. That's why, a state of equilibrium is still important in spite of having children because in that way, parents can healthily and effectively take care of others.

In an article published on The Virgin Islands Consortium, the writer highlighted the reality that parenting is a "complete paradigm shift," where time becomes a well-guarded and precious commodity. The writer also admitted that achieving a balance in parenting is quite impossible that's why, it would be best to prioritize the important things in your life.

The author also shared "The Four C's of Parenting," which include: Choices, Consequences, Consistency and Care. The article also reminded parents to always make a child feel that everything they do is done as an act of love.

Meanwhile, the digital age is making parenting more challenging for parents. As a matter of fact, some parents are torn between the ideas of what's good parenting in the digital age or just follow what they think or feel is right.

Despite being in an era that most if not all people have become obsessed with technology, psychologist Richard Freed wrote in his Huffington Post article that children's family and school connections remained the most significant factors in their lives. Freed also stressed the need for parents to teach their children to have self-control and learn how to use technology productively.

In this age of distraction, Freed also advised parents to adapt and apply the authoritative parenting style, especially when it comes to their children's tech use. It's also best for parents and children to have more bonding without the use of tech devices.

"Authoritative parents are loving and highly engaged in children's lives, and they provide high expectations and limits to support those expectations," Freed explained. "To provide kids high expectations and limits, parents should not try to be their children's friend, but rather understand that they have the responsibility to set tech limits (even when kids push back) to foster distraction-free family moments, reading and study time."

The rise of technology has definitely brought a lot of changes into the lives of humans. But Freed emphasized that the real essence of parenting still lies on parents ensuring that their kids have a healthy, happy and the best childhood.
