'Code Black' Season 2 Air Date & News: Marcia Gay Harden Talks Cast Axing, Rob Lowe Reveals Why He Joined

As viewers might have learned, "Code Black" Season 2 will return on CBS without two of its familiar characters -- Dr. Christa Lorenson (Bonnie Somerville) and Dr. Neal Hudson (Raza Jaffrey). Lead star Marcia Gay Harden (Dr. Leann Rorish) finally talks about what their departure means for the show.

But in the wake of removing cast members, "Code Black" has also added Rob Lowe as its newest doctor. The actor also talks about what made him decide to join the medical drama, which will begin its second season run on CBS on Sept. 28.

Speaking with fans of "Code Black" via Facebook, Marcia Gay Harden said that she sees losing Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey as an indication of their characters, Christa and Neal, moving on to better things in life. In the series, the two have started dating during "Code Black" Season 1. To Marcia Gay Harden, she has this in her mind that the two have gotten married and are now working as doctors at a different hospital. "And we remember them for their great teamwork and great medicine that they did," said Harden, according to TV Overmind.

However, it is unclear whether this is how "Code Black" writers are going to address the characters who have been removed from the show. Fans are expecting some kind of closure when "Code Black" returns, especially since Christa and Neal have been two of the most liked characters in the series.

Meanwhile, Rob Lowe, who plays combat doctor Col. Ethan Willis, reveals that he joined "Code Black" because he was asked to do one thing when the job was offered to him. "They said you get to fly around in helicopters in your very first scene and jump 35 feet into the Pacific Ocean to rescue somebody," the actor said, per Hidden Remote. Right there, he knew that this was something that he would very much like to be a part of.

CBS announced that the "Code Black" Season 2 premiere will indeed feature Willis in a big way. Sent to Angel Memorial Hospital to teach the medical staff new techniques, Willis is going to be in a chopper to rescue shark victims in his first scenes on the show.

"Code Black" has also made other cast changes for its second season by putting Bors Kodjoe (Dr. Campbell) a series regular. The show also added semi-regular cast members who will play the new doctors, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey and Nafessa Williams. Catch "Code Black" Season 2 every Wednesday nights beginning this fall on CBS.
