With back-to-school season upon us, Blink, the ultra-affordable, wire-free HD home security and monitoring system, recently revealed what worries parents - from burglars to incomplete homework assignments - when they aren't home.

Blink surveyed 1,554 parents with kids aged 10 to 18 and determined that nearly 3 in 5 (59 percent) of parents leave their children home alone after school. According to the survey results, parents fear incomplete homework (18 percent) as much as home break-ins (17 percent).

In a recent press release, Blink CEO Peter Besen said "Blink's survey found that nearly half of parents are in fact concerned about home security threats while they're out of the house, including on vacations and during work hours, and can't control the situation. Even from afar, Blink can eliminate that worry, ensuring homes and families are safe through an affordable and easy to use system."

Leaving a child at home is never ideal, so why do so many parents feel comfortable doing it? Part of the answer lies in the advance of smart home security systems like Blink, which starts at only $99 and allows users to view live and recorded video via the Blink Home Monitor app on an iOS or Android device. As soon as Blink detects motion, users receive an alert and can begin streaming crisp, HD-quality video on their smartphones.

Nearly 90 percent of respondents were open to using a home security system, but 27 percent of respondents would be intimidated by setting up a security system on their own, either because they believe it to be too technical or too time consuming. For those 27 percent, Blink offers an easy solution. Smart security cameras can be a hassle to install, but Blink's intuitive system can be set up in minutes and, at the size of a post-it note, the camera blends in seamlessly with any home décor.

Don Shulsinger, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Blink said "While home security anxieties vary for parents, they overwhelmingly prioritize safety and need simple, affordable solutions to do so. Our goal with Blink is to offer a system that fits seamlessly into their busy lives - ready to catch a busy child or pet on the move, or to help with serious home threats such as burglary. It's so easy that they can set it up themselves, and so discreet that even their nannies won't notice."

The development of the "Big Mother" movement was one of the most surprising aspects of the survey, as 48 percent of those surveyed would use a 'Nanny Cam' to check on a babysitter and 32 percent would not alert the babysitter they were being watched. Almost three-fourths (71 percent) of parents would use one of these systems to watch their children and one in five would not tell their children they were being monitored.

Blink systems are perfect for home owners, renters, pet owners and caregivers alike and can be purchased at blinkforhome.com
