MTV Video Music Awards 2016 Predictions & Performances: Beyonce To Win Video Of The Year

The MTV Video Music Awards 2016 is on this Sunday evening and it is going to be a tight competition for the artists nominated for Video of the Year. So much star power is in the running for the award show's top trophy that it is going to be difficult to predict who will win. Nevertheless, here are our MTV Video Music Awards 2016 predictions for Video of the Year:

Of the five nominees, Beyonce's "Formation" has been the most polarizing. Criticized by conservatives to be anti-police according to Billboard, the clip was praised by critics for depicting various facets of being an African-American in a tumultuous time in American history and was deemed an early frontrunner for multiple MTV Video Music Awards 2016 when it was first released in February. Its status as a political music video has only risen in recent months due to the Black Lives Matter movement. But if there is one artist who can topple the Beyhive for the MTV Video Music Awards 2016, it is Adele.

The British superstar conquered the music industry with her return late last year and a trophy during the MTV Video Music Awards 2016 could be a crowning glory as she has not won a fan voted award yet. "Hello" was directed by Canadian film auteur Xavier Dolan and the use of a flip phone in the clip was one of the biggest memes during the video release, according to the Verge.

The three other nominated videos, "Famous" by Kanye West, "Hotline Bling" by Drake and "Sorry" by Justin Bieber are not likely to win. But Bieber's fanbase is as big as Beyonce's and Adele's so if there is someone who will benefit from the two female stars' canceling each other out in the MTV Video Music Awards 2016's top category, it is Bieber.

The MTV Video Music Awards 2016 will be on Sunday, August 28, at 8 pm ET in the Madison Square Garden in New York City. It will also be aired live on MTV and its affiliate channels.
