'MacGyver' Reboot On CBS Latest News: Richard Dean Anderson Shuns Appearance; Get To Know Lucas Till

CBS' reboot of "MacGyver," which debuts this fall, is already drawing different reactions from viewers. It is rather expected that the show will get a lot of comparisons to the original series, which aired from 1985 to 1992 starring Richard Dean Anderson.

Perhaps in hoping to please the fans, the people behind the "MacGyver" reboot on CBS apparently wanted to bring the original actor for a guest spot in one of its episodes. But what did Richard Dean Anderson say to the invite and how different will the new MacGyver, Lucas Till, be?

Richard Dean Anderson confirmed that he was asked to guest star in the new "MacGyver" series on CBS. Posting a message on his official site, the actor wrote, "Yes, I was asked," but he also added that he will not be involved in the show in any way.

Anderson cited that the reason he's shunning the "MacGyver" reboot on CBS is because of the character's loyal fans. He mentioned that the current production "has proceeded without considering how and why they all became and STAYED loyal fans."

Mirror reports that actor was apparently also approached to help promote the "MacGyver" reboot on CBS. However, Richard Dean Anderson cited that the new series is a complete overhaul -- down to the cast and crew -- and he wants nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, CBS has cast a 26-year-old actor, Lucas Till, in the lead role as "MacGvyer." Till used to be in "Hannah Montana" and has dated Miley Cyrus. He has also worked with the likes of Nicole Kidman and Joaquin Phoenix, per Entertainment Weekly.

Slash Film reports that the new MacGyver is going to be more emotional than the previous incarnation. He has suffered "loss and betrayal" and this story will be playing out in the first season of the "MacGyver" reboot on CBS. He's still the guy who shuns weapons and firearms, but he will be working with a team in this new version.

The show will premiere on Friday, Sept. 23. Watch the teaser to "MacGyver" below.
