‘Pokémon GO’ Buddy System Guide & Release Date: Get Candy Rewards In Exchange For Walking Your Pokémon

The upcoming "Pokémon GO" Buddy system has been gaining buzz since it was announced. Basically, the update will reward players with Candy when they walk their buddy Pokémon for a required distance that ranges from 1 KM to 3 KM.

Candy is an important item in "Pokémon GO." Without it, trainers won't be able to evolve their precious Pokémon. Candy is also used to power up the pocket monsters and boost their CP and HP levels. To get Candy, players must catch or hatch Pokémon from an Egg, as well as through transferring Pokémon to Professor Willow, IGN listed.

The "Pokémon GO" Buddy system allows players to choose which of their Pokémon will accompany them on their journeys, game developer and publisher Niantic announced via a Facebook post. The Pokémon will walk alongside your avatar in the game as you explore the world. You can always switch your Pokémon to a different one if you want a fresh experience.

Ordinary Pokémon require 1 or 2 KM of walking distance in exchange for Candy, but the rarer ones need 3 KM. "Pokémon GO" dataminers found that the creatures that require 3 KM distance are legendary Pokémon such as Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos, Game Rant reported.

The "Pokémon GO" datamining efforts also found that the legendary Fire/Flying-Type Pokémon Moltres is labeled as a "Big" Pokémon, while Articuno and Zapdos fall under the "Flying" label. Legendary Pokémon isn't available in the game yet, but many expect that they will be soon.

According to Pokémon GO Hub, hackers found a source code in the game bearing the words "activity_catch_legend_Pokémon." Parent Herald previously reported that a Master Ball might be needed to catch legendary Pokémon. A Master Ball has a 100 percent Capture and Hit rate even if you miss the Pokémon you want to catch.

As for the release date of the "Pokémon GO" Buddy system, Heavy speculated that it will likely start rolling out this week (Tuesday, Sept. 6) and will be available in all regions on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Niantic's latest major updates have an every-other-week schedule since July. The last major update was on August 23, which added the Appraisal feature and slightly made the distance tracking better.
