‘Supernatural’ Ending After Season 14? ‘Time To Say Goodbye’ After 300th Episode, Jared Padalecki Says

"Supernatural" has already reached a whopping Season 12 set to premiere on The CW next month. The Winchester brothers have gone through so many obstacles in 12 years -- they died, went to Hell and back, fought (and befriended) monsters, demons, and angels, met God, and prevented numerous apocalypse events.

Despite its long run, "Supernatural" have maintained good ratings and its main actors, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, are still committed to playing Dean and Sam. But for how long? The show has completed an amazing feat of 241 episodes and the next milestone after that is reaching 300 episodes, a goal that is being eyed by Ackles, Padalecki, and the whole "Supernatural" crew. Beyond that, however, the TV series' future is questionable.

"Supernatural" executive producer Bob Singer said the potential 300th episode would equate to 13 episodes in Season 14, Entertainment Weekly reported. Singer said the show's Season 14 "could tell a 13-episode story," adding that "it would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale." He thinks that the show "earned" a proper finale, though they don't know how that would play out yet.

Padalecki said he and Ackles "will both be truly bummed" if "Supernatural" didn't reach 300 episodes. But if they indeed get there, both actors think "it might be time to say bye," EW further reported. In the meantime, they are focused on keeping their sights on hitting the 300th episode.

Regardless, both actors still enjoy portraying Dean and Sam, with Padalecki saying that he "learned a lot" from the brothers and he wants to keep telling their story "as long as possible." Ackles said it might be time to wrap "Supernatural" if he and Padalecki show up on set and they don't care anymore but luckily, they still feel that "little bit of magic" that was present in the show since Season 1.

Ackles added, "The day that I don't feel that magic will be a very sad day, and I hope that day never comes. I'd like to get to 300 before that day comes."

"Supernatural" Season 12 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9/8c on The CW. The new season will showcase Dean and Sam dealing with the British Men of Letters and the aftermath of their mother's (Samantha Smith) resurrection, Parent Herald previously reported. The upcoming episodes will feature a "badass warrior" Castiel (Misha Collins) that was reminiscent of the angel's Season 4 arc, and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) working on retaking Hell while juggling a potential romance with the soul reaper Billie (Lisa Berry).
