MMA News: Top Contenders Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler Face off in UFC 205

Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler are without a doubt two of the best in not only the welterweight division, but also in the entire UFC, and as fate would have it, they are going to face off in one of the most historic events in mixed martial arts, UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden, New York.

UFC 205 will be the first time that a mixed martial arts event will be held in the state of New York, since 1995, making one of the most anticipated events in the Big Apple. With such a historic event, it would only seem appropriate that the main card should be filled with filled with fights that are potential classics, and the UFC made the right choice in booking Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone to fight the former welterweight champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler.

Anthony Lima of CBS Radio announced the fight on Twitter, saying that the papers have been signed for the Lawler vs Cerrone fight, after receiving confirmation of the bout's booking from UFC President, Dana White.

Cerrone, who made his name in the UFC as a lightweight, moved up to the welterweight division after suffering a loss to former lightweight champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. Since making the move to welterweight, Cerrone has looked very impressive, especially in his last fight against Rick Story, which ended in 2 minutes in the second round, with Cerrone winning via TKO due to strikes.

Meanwhile, Lawler was on top of the welterweight division, before he was knocked out by Tyron Woodley, and losing his title in the very first round. Nonetheless, Lawler is still one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC, known for his aggressive style and knockout power.

The UFC has yet to announce the main event fight at UFC 205, according to MMA Weekly, but another fight, a lightweight bout between New York's very own Al Iaquinta and Thiago Alves, has already been booked. UFC 205 will be live on November 12, in the famed Madison Square Garden arena.
