'Princess Diaries 3' Release News & Update: Anne Hathaway Ditching Project To Reprise Catwoman In DC Universe?

Is Anne Hathaway no longer interested in doing "Princess Diaries 3"? The actress was enthusiastic about reprising her role for this movie early this year. However, with the death of director Garry Marshall last August, the movie's status has become uncertain.

It also looks like Anne Hathaway's interest has also shifted. Instead of reprising Mia Thermopolis on "Princess Diaries 3," reports say that the actress is now keen on playing Catwoman again. Could this mean she will likely be joining the DC Universe?

"I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her," the actress told Variety. The star of "Princess Diaries" played Catwoman in the movie "The Dark Knight Rises," which starred Christian Bale and was directed by Christopher Nolan in 2012.

Nonetheless, Anne Hathaway is not certain how Catwoman would become part of the DC Universe since this was created after her participation in the "Batman" mythology. "The Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I'm part of that," she clarified. "But I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back," said the "Princess Diaries" darling.

Meanwhile, Hector Elizondo, Anne Hathaway's "Princess Diaries" co-star, is still hopeful that the third installment will happen. As previously reported on Parent Herald, the actor said that perhaps a female director could take over the project this time around.

Before Garry Marshall's death, the idea to bring back "Princess Diaries" for a third offering sprung from his talks with Anne Hathaway about doing the movie after she gave birth. Marshall revealed then that Hathaway wanted to revisit her character as a grown-up, with families and responsibilities just like her in real life.

The discussion to reviving "Princess Diaries" went as far as also involving Julie Andrews, who played the queen in the movie. Unfortunately, even with the stars agreeing to return for "Princess Diaries 3," Disney has yet to greenlit its production. For now, the studio is baring no plans for it.
