'Lethal Weapon' Air Date, Cast, Plot & Latest News: TV Reboot Unleashes New Riggs & Murtaugh - Get To Know Them!

The box office movie hit "Lethal Weapon" is getting a TV treatment on Fox and its premiere is happening in a matter of days. The TV reboot still features the unforgettable duo of Riggs and Murtaugh, which have been famously played by Mel Gibson and Danny Glover on the big screen. But how different will these characters be on the small screen? It's time to get to know them!

Damon Wayans will play the 50-year-old Roger Murtaugh in the "Lethal Weapon" TV reboot. His character returns to the police force following a heart attack, so he's ordered to slow down by his doctors, per TV Guide

Wayans/Murtaugh will be paired with Clayne Crawford as Martin Riggs. The character is a daredevil who could be manic depressive as well. Just like in the "Lethal Weapon" movies, the two don't get along well in the beginning and they will have to work out their differences before it gets them killed in the line of duty.

"Lethal Weapon" promises to be as explosive as its original source. However, the people behind the series said that television adaptation will not just be about the action, which seems to be the trademark of the movie franchise. "They're trying to create stories that are relevant in this day and age," said Fox honcho Dana Walden, via Entertainment Weekly. Viewers can expect more character expositions that are far different from the movies.

"Lethal Weapon" will begin its first season run on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8:00 p.m. on Fox. The show also stars Jordana Brewster as Dr. Maureen Cahill, Keesha Sharp as Trish Murtaugh and Kevin Rahm as Captain Brooks Avery. Among the show's recurring guests include Kristoffer Polaha and Michelle Mitchenor, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The series was developed for TV by Matt Miller based on the "Lethal Weapon" movies from Shane Black. Learn more about the show in the video below.
