'Star Trek: Discovery' Season 1 Spoilers & News: Romulans Will Be Main Villains? Premiere Pushed From January To May 2017

Bad news for those waiting for the debut of "Star Trek: Discovery" on CBS All Access. It has been announced that the show's premiere, originally slated for January 2017, will be pushed to May 2017.

The Wrap reports that the premiere was moved to allow production to deliver a series it "can be proud of." The people behind "Star Trek: Discovery" apparently need more time to "achieve a vision" so that nothing about their preparation will be compromised.

However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as only the air date has changed. Everything else that has been detailed about "Star Trek: Discovery" so far will continue as planned. It will still revolve around a setting from 10 years before the original series started. It will still have a female character powerhouse as its lead.

Meanwhile, it looks like "Star Trek: Discovery" might bring back the Romulans and make this species its main villain in the CBS All Access reboot. Apparently, "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner, Bryan Fuller, hinted on this storyline in a recent tweet about "Balance of Terror." The latter is a fan favorite episode in the original series, which introduced the Romulans to the viewers. Some of the writers have also been referencing this episode in their interviews discussing "Star Trek: Discovery."

The Romulans, who hail from the planet Romulus, are from the same ancestry as the Vulcans. However, they have a slightly different physiology, customs and behavior, per Star Trek.

In the shows before "Star Trek: Discovery," the Romulans have already been the antagonists, but they eventually made a truce and allied with the humans in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Making the Romulans the villains in the "Star Trek: Discovery" makes sense because it could explain the beginnings of the Earth-Romulan war further.

What do you think "Star Trek" fans? Has the delay bummed you out or is it making you more eager to watch the show given the latest reveal about villains?
