NBA Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers To Sign Mario Chalmers; J.R. Smith Opting Not To Re-Sign With Cavaliers?

With a more than a week before the NBA training camp starts, the Cleveland Cavaliers are yet to complete their roster as J.R. Smith hasn't signed with them. Now the Cavaliers had an option to replace J.R. Smith with Mario Chalmers.

Mario Chalmers hasn't found his destination since the NBA offseason starts. As a close friend of LeBron James, Chalmers is reportedly a possible replacement for J.R. Smith.

According to the Morning Ledger, the Cavaliers could sign Mario Chalmers for a veteran minimum. Chalmers would be a good addition to the Cavaliers where can provide good offensive rotation.

Cavaliers already have the rookie Kay Felder, Mo Williams and Kyirie Irving at the point, but Chalmers is also known as a combo guard. With his shooting stroke outside the 3-point line, Chalmers can provide floor stretch for the Cavaliers.

As per Cavaliers247 reported, last NBA season, being a member of the Memphis Grizzlies, Chalmers had gotten himself into the best year of his career. With a career high average of 10.8 points and an impressive 3.8 assists per game, he is playing well considering Chalmers is only playing about 22 minutes per contest. Chalmers was just waived after an Achilles injury.

Mario Chalmer is a good contributor offensively, little yet we know, Chalmers is also a good perimeter defender. He can cover his man from the perimeter and able to stay in front of his man before can they advance to the rim. He can also defend the passing lane, and as per Basketball Reference Chart shows, Chalmers has a 100.8 defensive rating stealing the ball almost twice per contest.

If the Cleveland Cavaliers would sign Mario Chalmers, he would definitely bring a lot of help to the team. Playing alongside with LeBron James in Miami Heat for 4 straight years, it won't be hard for them to build their chemistry back.
