NBA Free Agency: Cleveland Cavaliers To Acquire Kevin Martin As A Replacement To J.R. Smith If Not Re-Signed?

The Cleveland Cavaliers' roster is still not complete until today and has enough room acquire NBA free agent. Kevin Martin is rumored to be the replacement for J.R. Smith if they were not able to get him back.

Kevin Martin, 33, is still unsigned as of today as there a several teams rumored to be a suitor. Cavaliers are likely to be one of the mulling teams to acquire Kevin Martin.

In a report held by the Fan Sided back in February, Kevin Martin is likely to land with the Cavaliers, but then Martin was signed by the San Antonio Spurs after the Timberwolves' buyout.

Several basketball analysts say that this could be the right time to sign Kevin Martin by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Martin could be a good replacement for J.R. Smith if the Cavs would not be able to sign Smith back.

Kevin Martin's play style is very similar to J.R. Smith, a catch-and-shoot player than can also slash his way through the defense. Though Kevin Martin is less athletic than J.R. Smith, but he can manage to create his own shots. Kevin Martin also possessed the skill of a clutch performer, he can hit shots even with a high pressure.

According to Christian Daily, Memphis Grizzlies and the New York Knicks are one of the top teams to acquire Kevin Martin. His skills will fit in neither of these teams, as the report says.

On the other hand, the Cavaliers are having some issues to re-sign J.R. Smith, and unexpectedly, Smith skipped the Cavs' mini-camp held in Santa Barbara. But in a report released by ESPN, even with certain issues within the negotiation, J.R. Smith might still end up as a Cavalier. Smith's agent Rich Paul could find a way to settle a good term just how he did back in 2015 for Tristan Thompson.

Everything else stays a rumor until today, but we must expect more changes as the NBA season approaches. For the Cleveland Cavaliers, they might lose one of their brothers, but fans are sure that they could replace J.R. Smith in no time.
