Google's Waze Rider App Released Carpooling Service in San Francisco

Waze app has finally launched its carpooling service, Waze-rider, in San Francisco Bay. Waze already started offering carpool service in Israel in 2015 which has been a success. The carpool service provider is still operating in the country.

Google's Waze-Rider's intentions on providing the carpooling service is limited only to two journeys each day for both the rider and driver. The carpool service app is cheaper compared to its competitors, Uber and Lyft.

Google's focus is to lessen the cars in the area where the traffic is dense and at the same time, provide a less hassle service for people who are in the same area with the intention of heading to and from work. Waze-Rider app does not want to attract drivers who wants to make the Waze-Rider app the main source of income.

The drivers are paid as low as 54 cents per mile in comparison to Uber and Lyft that charge more than five times. Google's Waze-Rider in San Francisco Bay area is its first attempt to kick off the service in United States. The giant tech company's approach suits the term "ride sharing" as it is the exact intention of the app's usage, according to Tech Crunch.

Google's relationship with Uber has been fraying the partnership due to competition in resources, mapping and autonomous car efforts. Google backed Uber with $250 million through its venture capital arm, Google Venture (GV) in 2013. Uber recently is in acquisition to pair with Volvo to develop autonomous cars. The joint commitment is worth $300 million.

This year, David Drummond, Aplhabet's chief legal officer has stepped down from the board of Uber company due to "conflict of interest". As both companies are increasing their revenue, the stepping down from Uber's board of David Drummond would be a wise decision as to not overlap the interests of both companies, according to Business Insider.
