‘Lucifer’ Season 2 Episode 2 Recap: Does Mommy Morningstar Really Love Lucifer?

"Lucifer" season 2 just aired its second episode and while it seemingly resolved what initially looked like the main conflict of the season; the episode also brought on new questions regarding Lucifer's (Tom Ellis) Mommy Morningstar (Tricia Helfer), or Charlotte under her mortal name.

Titled "Liar, Liar, Slutty Dress on Fire," "Lucifer" season 2 episode 2 began with Mommy Morningstar telling the events of her arrival to the mortal realm to "Lucifer." After getting going through a couple of initial recently-deceased bodies; an old man who presumably died from cardiac arrest in public and a gang banger, Mommy Morningstar ended up inhabiting a murder victim.

Lucifer's "mum in the body of a disturbingly hot woman" caused no shortage of laughs at the expense of the former Lord of Hell; coupled with the only available clothes being Maze' (Lesley-Ann Brandt) wardrobe with inadequate coverage and Mommy Morningstar's own confusion regarding the intricacies of the modern mortal world, "Lucifer season 2 episode 2 milked the concept for all its worth.

To find out if Mommy Morningstar was really telling the truth, "Lucifer" spends the episode following the trail of bloodshed that involves his mother's host body. By sheer coincidence, or maybe even divine providence, the case for "Lucifer" season 2 episode 2 specifically involved Mommy Morningstar's host and her connections to a possible drug trafficking ring.

After first thinking that Mommy Morningstar was the culprit responsible for the murders in the case, Lucifer eventually turned into a worried son when he found out that his mother disappeared with the real perpetrator of the murders still on the loose. One of the smaller subplots in "Lucifer" season 2 episode 2 was "Lucifer" possibly projecting his own mommy-issues on Chloe's (Lauren German) parenting with her own daughter.

Though the ending of the first season made it seem like "Lucifer" season 2 will have Mommy Morningstar as the main villain, this episode actually wrapped up what conflict they might have with Mommy Morningstar revealing some major truths regarding Lucifer's origins as the Lord of hell. At least, for now; as it seems like Mommy Morningstar might have her own agenda based on the certain look she shot the heavens at the end of "Lucifer" season 2 episode 2.

Does Mommy Morningstar really love Lucifer? Is what she told him regarding her and his father's roles in his casting out really the truth? Maybe fans will find out in the next episode after "Lucifer" season 2 episode 2, which will hit next week Monday, 9 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. CT on FOX.
