'Miss Peregrine' Release, News & Update: Tim Burton Film Stops US Box Office

Fox and Chernin Entertainment-produced "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" made a big time bow in its worldwide premiere screening, easily raking $28.8M on its first weekend. The film has effortless dethroned hard-sell movie, "Deep Water Horizon," and landing it second.

According to Deadline, the young adult fiction movie, "Miss Peregrine," debuted in 3,522 theaters across the globe and had a $8,197 per screen average. The film helmed by the seasoned Tim Burton, whose ingenious works included "Alice in Wonderland," "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride."

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has been highly received not only as evident in the United States box office, but as well as overseas like in the Latin Americas and South Korea--where it earned the biggest overseas, with a brimming $5.5M loot. It also finished strong in its first weekend at United Kingdom, amassing $4.6M albeit trailing only second to "Bridget Jones' Baby."

Parent Herald earlier reported about its trailer when it first released last March and it has been excessively anticipated ever since. As reported, "Miss Peregrine" is a story about a young boy named Jacob as he discovers a sanctuary for people that has been given a gift, yet, alas, different that everyone else.

Starring Eva Green, who portrays the role as Miss Peregrine, and Asa Butterfield as Jacob, the movie's plot started at Jacob regaled to his grandfather's whimsical stories in a far-off island. But, when grandfather Abe, played by Terence Stamp, passed away, Jacob was intrigued with the island and searched for it.

In the island near Wales, Jacob discovers Miss Peregrine, a shape-shifter who foster cares truly peculiar children like Emma, portrayed by Ella Purnell, a girl as light as the air among other peculiars. Together, they embattled the force of evil casted by Baron, played by Samuel L. Jackson.
