‘Ocean’s Eight’ News & Updates: Female-led ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Remake Now Has Initial Release Date

"Ocean's Eight," also known as "Ocean's Ocho" and the all-female cast reboot of the acclaimed caper film series that began with "Ocean's Eleven," finally has an initial set date for when it will hit theaters with the film dated for a June, 8 2018 premiere.

Deadline reported the date for Gary Ross' "Ocean's Eleven" reboot," curiously just two months short of having a more fitting 08/08/18 premiere date for "Ocean's Eight." Led by Sandra Bullock, "Ocean's Eight" feature an all-female cast compared to the all-male cast in "Ocean's Eleven" with Bullock likely taking over the role George Clooney had in "Ocean's Eleven."

"Ocean's Eight" will also star other Hollywood big names to round up the all-female "Ocean's Eleven" reboot cast. "Ocean's Eight" will see the likes of Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kalling, Anne Hathaway appearing alongside R&B singer- turned actress Rihanna and YouTube star Nota "Awkwafina" Lum to commit a caper in the all-female "Ocean's Eleven" reboot.

Written and directed by Garry Ross, "Ocean's Eight" is scheduled to begin production this month with the female-led "Ocean's Eleven" remake apparently set in New York according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Ocean's Eight" will reportedly feature Bullock's character as the sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean from "Ocean's Eleven," with Bullock's character already having prior criminal experience as an ex-convict according to Tracking Board.

"Ocean's Eleven" director Steven Soderbergh will produce the all-female reboot alongside Ross, with Susan Etkins acting as executive producer for "Ocean's Eight." Companies included in the production of "Ocean's Eight" are Village Roadshow Pictures, which will co-produce and co-finance alongside Smokehouse Pictures; with Warner Bros. distributing the "Ocean's Eleven" remake locally in the United States.

According to Variety, the "Ocean's Eleven" remake might have some strict competition as Paramount's sixth "Transformers" film starring Bumblebee will also premiere on June 8, 2018, which could mean trouble for "Ocean's Eight." "Ocean's Eight" will also be another in the budding trend of remaking prior male-centric films, like "Ocean's Eleven," into stories featuring an all-female or mostly-female cast.
