‘Doctor Who’ Season 10 Spoilers: More Of Twelve’s ‘Alienness;’ What Sets Bill Apart From Other Companions

The tenth season of "Doctor Who" will feature a new companion in the form of Pearl Mackie's Bill after literally forgetting his last. Bill isn't the only refreshing change that the BBC series will showcase, though, because fans will also see more of The Doctor's alien nature.

At the "Doctor Who" panel at the New York Comic-Con last weekend, Peter Capaldi said that the great thing about portraying the Time Lord is his "whole life cycle," Screen Rant reported. With every regeneration he goes through, The Doctor starts off without knowing who he is and struggling with that before coming to terms with his new character. However, The Doctor remains to be a cryptic individual despite allowing himself to be close with the people and aliens he helps.

"The important thing about Doctor Who is there's always a mystery to him," Capaldi said, as quoted by Screen Rant. "There's always a Doctor Who you don't know because he's alien, he's not a human being. So, I think we're going to see some more of his alienness."

Featuring more of Twelve's alienness on "Doctor Who" Season 10 might mean that this iteration of The Doctor won't have the same relationship with Bill that the Time Lord had with Rose (Billie Piper), Martha (Freema Agyeman), Donna (Catherine Tate), Amy (Karen Gillan), and Clara (Jenna Coleman). It's also possible that his mind being wiped of Clara's memories will have other consequences. It could result to him acting stranger and more alien than usual on "Doctor Who" Season 10.

Mackie, meanwhile, discussed what sets Bill apart from The Doctor's other companions at NYCC and the new perspective her character can offer to the series. The 29-year-old actress described Bill as "very smart, her brain works very quickly, she's very quick-witted, and sometimes that can get her into a bit of trouble," according to a separate report from Screen Rant.

Mackie said that on "Doctor Who" Season 10, the Time Lord and Bill will both be fascinated on each other's perspectives, setting them up for a "nice dynamic." For Bill, meeting The Doctor is wholly different, while Twelve's interest will be piqued about how Bill instinctively reacts to things, which he doesn't expect at all.

"The way that they kind of play off of each other and challenge each other is something that's quite new, quite fresh, which I think is really cool," Mackie added, as quoted by Screen Rant. "Doctor Who" Season 10 airs in early 2017. In August, Capaldi teased about Clara returning in some form or another in the upcoming season, Parent Herald previously reported.
