Marvel’s Black Panther Adds Forest Whitaker To Stellar Cast

As usual, Marvel is on top when casting an excellent ensemble. The Black Panther movie recently announced it has added one of the brightest actors in Hollywood.

In a recent report by Metro UK, critically-acclaimed actor Forest Whitaker has been added to the cast of Marvel's Black Panther. The lead role of King T'Challa will be played by Chadwick Boseman after his character debuted in another Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War back in April. The website added that Whitaker, 55, "will play Zuri, an elder of Wakanda." In the Marvel universe, Zuri is a Wakanda warrior and loyal companion of the first Black Panther, King T'Chaka. He later served King T'Challa as a "special attendant/warrior."

Alongside Whitaker and Boseman, Marvel's Black Panther will also have Michael B. Jordan (Fantastic Four, Rocky), Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) and Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead). They will be joined by Florence Kasumba, who will reprise her role as T'Challa's bodyguard, Ayo, and Daniel Kaluuya (Kick-Ass 2) as T'Challa's confidant, W'Kabi, according to Variety.

Marvel's Black Panther will be directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed). He will share script duties with Joe Robert Cole (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story), and will work together for Marvel's eighth MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the sequel of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.

While it's still a long way before Marvel's Black Panther will hit the big screen on February 18, 2018, Cinema Blend said that it "will almost certainly all but entirely take place in Wakanda". It also added that the Marvel Cinematic Universe can opt to decipher T'Challa "as a diplomat and representative of Wakanda on a global scale", as well as "doing battle with various tribes" while protecting his country's priced resource: Vibranium.
