'The Walking Dead' Game Latest Update: Mobile Game Comes To 'TWD' Fans?

Now "The Walking Dead" fans can cross eyebrows and strategize against the undead mob from just about anywhere. The new "Walking Dead" game sounds about as haunting and exciting as its mobile title: March to War.

The game devs at Disruptor Beam are bringing the popular zombie story into a multiplayer strategy platform. Competition isn't just about the struggle against zombies though, as with the hit TV show, it's the other players that pose a real, unexpected threat.

Disruptor Beam CEO Jon Radoff says that his company's vision is now focused on storytelling through games, following the trend with companies like LucasArts and Bioware: "With mobile and social network games, there was an opportunity to take that audience for Bioware games and start thinking in terms of billions of people."

Famous for publishing games that reach to a large fanbase such as "Star Wars: The Old Republic," LucasArts and Bioware have lead the community-based approach to game development. Disruptor Beam is keeping up with this trend by adjusting its approach to making stories come alive as games.

The game is set in a fictional Washington D.C., with players taking on the role of a leader of a group of survivors struggling to rebuild and fight the zombie horde, creating a council of well-known characters from the Walking Dead universe like Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes. Radoff says that the game's development team focused on the narrative element because they wanted to "tell the story of rebuilding civilization against a backdrop of feudalism - it's reliving tribal warfare."

Scopely reports another " Walking Dead" game has been published before, the Disruptor Beam release takes on a different genre, because its "immersive 3D graphics and focused on true multiplayer competitive gameplay, where survivors must actively work with and against others to gain control and progress," makes it an entirely different gaming experience from the previous RPG title, explains Joey Lapegna, Director of Product & Design at Disruptor Beam.

Due for a 2017 release as a free-to-play game for both iOS and Android, the game will be Disruptor Beam's third mobile game based on popular TV franchises, with Game of Thrones and Star Trek already in its pockets. The TV show returns with its Season 7 premiere at AMC on October 23.
