NBA News: J.R. Smith Can Only Land Either With The Sixers, Nets Or The Nuggets If Not Re-Signed With The Cavaliers

J.R. Smith is confirmed that he can only sign with 3 other teams in the NBA aside from the Cleveland Cavaliers, which are the Sixers, Nets and the Nuggets. This is with the fact that J.R. Smith is currently asking for about $15 million a year this coming NBA season.

As of today, the Cleveland Cavaliers are in hopes that J.R. Smith could re-sign with him as they sent an offer between $10 to $11 as many reports show. The Cavaliers can obviously provide what J.R. Smith wants, but in the previous report by the Business Insider, the Cavaliers can use their NBA Bird Rights to J.R. Smith.

This NBA rule will allow the Cavaliers to sign J.R. Smith over the cap limit as the NBA Bird Rights rule applies. The truth behind it is that the Cavaliers will also increase their Luxury Tax which they are also preventing. In a different report, the Cavaliers are also thinking that signing J.R. Smith with $15 million is not a good idea, considering it will his age and possible regression along the next couple of seasons.

On the other hand, if the Cavaliers stand on their offer and Smith stayed on his asking salary, Smith could end up with either of 3 remaining NBA teams. In an NBA salary cap sheet by the Spotrac, it shows that the Sixers, Nets and the Nuggets are the only teams than can actually pay Smith with his $15 million asking salary.

As we can see, J.R. Smith could have a guaranteed starter spot or better yet the main scoring option of any of these teams. The Sixers are in need of starting shooting guard, same as the Brooklyn Nets and obviously the Denver Nuggets too. This 3 NBA teams are likely to be the best options left for J.R. Smith that can provide his contract year.

Until today, Cavaliers fans are still hoping that J.R. Smith would re-sign with the Cavaliers. LeBron James will be frustrated if he loses one of his best wingman as they defend their title this coming NBA Season.
