‘NCIS’ Season 14 Cancellation: David McCallum Leaves; What Happens to Ducky?

The hit American crime TV series has just returned for its fourteenth season, but with recent developments its cast and management, the future of "NCIS" seems to be on the line. One of the latest that transpired is David McCallum's exit from the show.

David McCallum has been playing one of the original characters, Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, in "NCIS." Ducky is the official medical examiner of NCIS Major Case Response Team. The 82 years old actor, one of fan favorites, has confirmed that "NCIS" Season 14 would be his last, as reported by Morning Ledger. Given his age, working seems to be not getting easier for him, and so his decision to leave the long-running U.S. TV series is based on his health.

David McCallum will not be seen as much as before in "NCIS" Season 14. According to the report, the production is already working on the impending exit of Dr. Ducky from the unit.

The news of David McCallum's inevitable departure from "NCIS" comes at the heels of the death of the show's showrunner, writer, and executive producer Gary Glasberg. Glasberg unexpectedly passed away in his sleep later in September, much to the shock of people close to him, including the cast of "NCIS."

"Gary was our rock, our cheerleader, our team captain. He inspired us with his leadership, his creative instincts and keen insight. 'NCIS' will not be the same without him, and each of us will miss his smiling face and unwavering humor, which lifted us every day," the statement of "NCIS" cast and crew read.

With Glasberg's demise, the future of "NCIS" was left hanging, and rumors of its cancellation made rounds online. "NCIS" was renewed for Season 15 back in February. No official statement yet has been released as to any changes to that.
