‘The Originals’ Season 4 Cancelled Due To Low Ratings: Executive Producer Confirms Haylijah Reunion [SPOILERS]

"The Originals" Season 4 may be the series finale for The CW drama. Season 3 ratings show that "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff experienced quite a dip in its viewership last season. Is it time to say goodbye to the story of the Mikaelson brothers in New Orleans?

This article contains spoilers. Read on if you want to learn more about the details of this story.

"The Originals" Season 4 cancellation news reveals that the ratings remain as the indicator of whether the show will get renewed of not. TV Series Finale shows that the "TVD" spinoff series experienced a drop in its ratings during its third season.

"The Originals" only managed to score 0.38 ratings in the 18-49 demographics, which is 36.36 percent less than the second season. Ratings play a huge role in determining the fate of a show's future on air more than anything else.

Still, there is a chance that "The Originals" Season 4 will score a renewal from The CW; that is, if the show manages to attract more viewers into watching the episodes. The upcoming season will also have fewer episodes than the first three seasons, which is usually a sign that things are going bad for a series.

However, "The Originals" Season 4 spoilers reveal that there will be a "Haylijah" reunion coming, which can definitely bring the numbers back up for the show. Speaking with TV Line, executive producer Julie Plec explained that Hayley and Elijah deserve to have a reunion this time.

Plec teased that "The Originals" Season 4 will see a time jump in order to pick up from the time when "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 ends its story. It remains to be seen, however, whether characters from Mystic Falls will join the vampires at New Orleans.
