According to Fox News, Bill Murray received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday evening at the Kennedy Center. Bill Murray was joined by other "Saturday Night Live" alumni to win the annual event. After receiving the award, Bill Murray handed it over to a gentleman in the front row and asked the crowd to pass it around.

Bill Murray has admitted that he was uncomfortable sitting in a box with his family while the rest of his co-stars spoke about his body of work with much esteem. Bill Murray's acceptance speech was later on followed by a tribute to David Letterman who made a rare public appearance after his long-running show ended in June. Bill Murray appeared 44 times on Letterman's show and has become close to the host.

The were a lot of laughs at Bill Murray's expense in the evening as expected for comedians. Jimmy Kimmel, Aziz Ansari, Sigourney Weaver and Steve Martin were those who contributed to the gentle puns and funny banters directed to Bill Murray being aloof and difficult to reach.

Not to be outdone, Miley Cyrus who was part of the performers cursed several times when she made a not-so-impressive rendition of the song "My Way" to which Bill Murray stepped in to rescue the younger singer. Bill Murray joking with the crowd from his seat as Miley Cyrus and the crew attempted to have another try.

As further shared by NZ Herald, the event was sold out with 2,400 people in attendance. The audience were treated to several acts of stand-up sets, personal reminisces, clips of Bill Murray's notable performance and much more.

Friends and colleagues of Bill Murray celebrated the comedian's funny and quirky side as well. They have teased Bill Murray for being obsessed with Chicago Cubs and his unpredictable approach to life and work.
