'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Cast News: Ian Somerhalder Teases Nina Dobrev's Return, On Wife Nikki Reed, 'I'm The Luckiest Man on The Planet!'

Is "The Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev returning for Season 6? Her co-star Ian Somerhalder believes she's still in the show.

During the Comic-Con event in San Diego this weekend, the actor, who plays the vampire Damon Salvatorre in The CW series, teased fans about Nina's possible return. "She's still there, dude. She's in a casket. She's having a nap," Ian said, according to MTV.

At which point, his co-stars also chimed in.

"[Characters] die and come back. It's like Jesus!" said Paul Wesley, who plays Ian's vampire brother, Stefan.

"You never know when characters are going to leave, you never know when they're going to come back. That's been a constant for six seasons, now. So the fact that, for such a big departure, that it is left open-ended, is really true to the show," Candice Accola added.

Nina announced she was quitting the series at the end of last season. Fans speculate she was moving on after her breakup with Ian in 2013. They dated for more than three years. The following year, Ian started dating actress Nikki Reed, whom he subsequently married in April 2015.

But while Nina and Ian swear they remain good friends despite their failed relationship, the actor reportedly unfollowed Nina on Twitter recently, according to The Hollywood Gossip. Before that, his wife was said to have asked him to quit his TV show. Rumor has it, Nikki is jealous of Ian's ex-girlfriend, according to Celebrity Laundry.

Ian and Nikki's short courtship have lead people to speculate their union will end soon, but as Ian has shown everyone, he's very much in love with Nikki. "My wife. The most beautiful human being in the world," the actor said via E! Online. "I'm the luckiest man on the planet."

"There's a lot of passion in our house. Nikki's incredible," Ian further said, while revealing that their house was turned into an animal rescue center by his wife of three months. She shares his love for animals.

"[She] has taken so much time and energy and money of her own with her family, particularly her mom, to foster animals and make sure that they are safe. That in and of itself is really something that solidifies us as a unit that really is an amazing thing to wake up to every morning," he gushed about Nikki, via US Magazine.

"My goal and Nikki's goal in life is literally - my goal in particular - is to build four profit entities that will literally feed our necessary non-prof initiatives till the end of time," the 36 year old TV star said.
