Running Back David Johnson Could Have Done Better According to Arizona Cardinals Coach Arians During Bizarre Tie With Seahawks

Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians felt that running back David Johnson could have done more in their 6-all tie against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

The running back Johnson touched the ball 41 times, running for 113 yards and finishing with 171 yards from scrimmage. But Arizona Cardinals coach Arians said that running back Johnson would've touched the ball 45 times if he had chosen better routes to run, according to ESPN. Coach Arians added that in games, the running back Johnson, who leads the NFL with 174 touches and 1,004 yards from scrimmage, tends to run too fast or makes poor decisions.

Arizona Cardinals coach Arians generally praised his team the Cardinals. Coach Arians said that they fought very hard and that the offensive line battled all night, while the defensive line fought well except in the last drive. He added that it's disheartening to play as well as they did and not win, Seattle Times reported. However, Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu criticized their offense for not complementing the defensive players that did well.

Cardinals fans remain angry on investing so much time and emotion in a game against a hated rival that merely resulted in a tie. Some have called it the best worst game they've ever seen, according to AZ Central.

The Cardinals' defense limited the Seahawks to their fewest total and rushing yards this season by attacking quarterback Russell Wilson, hitting the latter five times. Although the Cardinals only had one sack, they forced the Seahawks to punt on nine drives.

The Cardinals dominated and were poised to win after Carson Palmer completed a 40-yard pass to J.J. Nelson in the second quarter that set up Chandler Catanzaro for the 46-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead.

The Seahawks punted on their first nine possessions before a blocked punt set up Steven Hauschka for a 40-yard field goal to tie the game in the fourth quarter, USA Today reported.

However, both Hauschka and Catanzaro missed short field goals that would have won the game for either team in overtime. Had Hauschka made a 27-yard field goal, the Seahawks could have claimed the win. On the other hand, had Catanzaro nailed a 24-yarder, the Cardinals would have won.
