Tesla CEO Elon Musk Hints at Uber Competition from Tesla Network

In keeping with his reputation of being a tech visionary, global businessman and mogul Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been hitting headlines left and right for simultaneous tech-related pursuits. The latest is his vague reference to a potential Uber competitor from his company Tesla.

"It's the people versus Uber," Elon Musk said. The Tesla CEO maintains that his new ridesharing initiative Tesla Network is not directly designed to oppose Uber. But he is confident that the high quality of this new public service offering will have people leaving other existing ride sharing services like Uber.

One of the key selling points of Tesla is the autonomous driving capability. With this new Tesla Network ridesharing services, Tesla CEO Elon Musk envisions that the Tesla car owner can summon his or her vehicle to do remote driving tasks. He also confirmed that this Tesla Network ridesharing service will be exclusive to the users of Tesla and not public or generic with car models like Uber.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk also emphasizes that quarter 4 earnings of Tesla are expected to perform well because of service improvements. JB Strobel, chief technology officer of Tesla, claims that they have placed "a huge amount of engineering intention" in their product line, particularly the latest Model 3 line.

Elon Musk has got his hands full of ventures. Aside from his current updates about the direction and earnings report of Tesla for the third quarter of the year, the CEO is also known for investing in various initiatives like solar roofing for energy company SolarCityMars Colony Ships in his space exploration startup SpaceX, and the continuous development of self-driving cars through Tesla.

Prior to this cryptic Tesla Network announcement, Tesla CEO Elon Musk reached out to people who are interested in his SpaceX initiative. He was Reddit's guest three days ago in an Ask Me Anything session from Reddit users. His main vision for his SpaceX company initiatives was to send people to Mars by 2024 and colonize the red planet.

Despite the Tesla owner's numerous bleeding-edge ideas, Elon Musk remains wary of artificial intelligence. "I'm increasingly inclined to think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don't do something very foolish. With artificial intelligence we're summoning the demon," the Tesla CEO said.
