A New York City high school principal allegedly got attacked and beaten up by a student earlier this week. Accordingly, the principal asked the student to remove his headphones while on the hallway.

The high school was identified as Murry Bergatraum High School and located in lower Manhattan. The principal, Matthew Tossman, oversees the Manhattan Early College School for Advertising in the said school.

The student identified as 18-year-old Luis Penzo and when Tossman instructed him to turn down the music but he did not follow the request. Tossman then grabbed the headphones to try and remove it himself. Penzo allegedly gave the first blow by punching the principal in the head, People reported.

Penzo allegedly continued to punch Tossman in the face numerous times, Palm Beach Post reported. The injuries from the beating that Tossman received were lacerations and swelling on both of his eyes. He was taken to Lower Manhattan Hospital for treatment and was released later after being treated for his injuries.

Penzo, on the other hand, was arrested at around 1 P.M. He was charged with second-degree assault. He remains to be in custody awaiting arraignment at the Manhattan Criminal Court. $5000 is the bond for Penzo.

The New York City Department of Education said in a statement that the New York Police was able to respond immediately and that the safety and security of both the students and the staff are their top priority.

Carmen Fariña, the chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, added that she is upset because anyone hurt in any of their schools, be it a child or an adult, they are concerned. She added that they would review what happened and, "The consequences were if you do something wrong, you will have the punishment like being arrested."
