Triple Double Russ for MVP; Oklahoma City Thunder's One Man Wrecking Crew Carries Team To Victory

Many Russell Westbrook believers think that Russ' star will shine the brightest after Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors this season. Here he is, scoring at will and stacking up stats on just their second game of the season. Russ scored a new NBA record for this season, 51 points that came along with 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over the Pheonix Suns.

He is the only player to have a 50 point triple-double game since Kareem Abdul-Jabar in 1975. The 7th player in NBA history to score at least 50 points and record a triple-double, per Sportsnet Stats.

On their first game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Westbrook scored 32 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out 9 assists which is an assist away from a triple-double. They also won the first game and now have a 2-0 record this season.

The stats are not surprising, given his winning record. Critics believe that a monster will be unleashed when Durant left the Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors. Critics also predict that this will happen in the near future. As for Westbrook, he has always been known to compete fiercely at the highest level for every game.

Despite having these amazing records on their first two games, Westbrook is still unsatisfied of his and the team's performance. This is the sole reason why people continue to believe and give respect to Russ. An all around player and a true competitor in this new era of players, according to his fans.

In a report by ESPN after the game against the Suns, Westbrook implied that the key to win is to "will" yourself to win and compete.  He stated that winning is all in the mind, and avoiding thoughts of getting "tired" while in a game.

Fans are now wondering if Westbrook will be able to sustain this kind of intensity and energy in the court.  Will he continue to produce solid numbers and "will" his team to victory at any given night? Can his teammates rise to the occassion and work with him?
