'Frozen 2' Updates: Elsa Might Have A Girlfriend In The Upcoming Movie

The Queen of Arendelle, Idina Menzel has expressed her opinion about the campaign that Elsa is likely to have a girlfriend in "Frozen 2." Idina Menzel thinks that it will be a great idea during the Billboard Music Awards. Menzel added that Disney just have to contend with the idea and she will let them figure it out.

The idea of Elsa having a girlfriend in "Frozen 2" started this year when a campaign on twitter emerged with #GiveElsaAGirlfriend. The topic went viral, and it was a response to Disney's lack of queer characters. The fans of Elsa and "Frozen" were striking not long after the hashtag campaign started to trend.

The 17-year-old girl, Alexis Isabel, started the campaign after writing an essay for her MTV Founders. Isabel thought that the idea is to give the young girls a chance to understand that a princess can also love another princess similar to how other Disney princess characters have loved their prince charming. Isabel added that the idea is vital to the development of the young girls all over the world.

Isabel's thoughts on the idea of Elsa having a girlfriend in "Frozen 2" also comes with her share of opinion about how no one deserves to feel isolated and the confusion of young girls about their identity, according to MTV. Elsa has been breaking boundaries in the 2013 film and is said to be a perfect fit for Disney to start expanding options about the storyline.

The director of "Frozen" movie, Chris Buck has confirmed that Elsa is going to have an emotional journey in the upcoming second film. "Frozen 2" is going to be about Elsa having the feeling of opening up and having fun. Buck said that this personality of Elsa is going to come up in "Frozen 2" according to Fandango.

The statement of Chris Buck made fans assume that the possibility of Elsa being a lesbian in "Frozen 2" is likely to be high. The idea of Elsa having a girlfriend in "Frozen 2" has gathered more than 60,000 signatures for a petition asking Disney to not give Elsa a girlfriend and discourage homosexuality in animated films.

The religious activists and conservatives were the one responsible for the petition and it has urged Disney to lay upon natural family structures and promote societal values. The message of the petition has also gone viral with a campaign hashtag #CharmingPrinceForElsa. The petition adds a message that Disney shall follow its normal trend and create a loving prince for Elsa in "Frozen 2."
