Bob Dylan Receives Nobel Prize For Literature Award, Artist Labeled 'Impolite And Arrogant'

At 75, singer-songwriter Robert Allen Zimmerman popularly named as Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel prize on Oct. 13 for his contributions to new poetic expressions in the great American song tradition. Bob Dylan is to be awarded said recognition on Dec. 10 prize, according to Billboard.

Dylan told Sara Danius, Swedish Academy's permanent secretary that the news about the Nobel Prize left him speechless according to a statement posted Friday (Oct. 28) on the Nobel Prize website. And that the honor he received is very much appreciated and gave him delight.

According to New York Times, Bob Dylan's statements in his interview eagerly promote a new exhibition of his visual art in London came after two weeks of public silence  about the Nobel prize. During that time, members of the Swedish Academy composed of 18 persons became so agitated. First, they mentioned that they had not spoken to Bob Dylan about him personally receiving the prize. Then one of the members called his non-response an "impolite and an arrogant" reaction.

Numerous awards have been won by Bob Dylan over the years, which incudes the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for which he proudly received in a White House ceremony in  2012. He became the very first rock star voted in American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2013, which made Dylan an honorary member. Dylan also has a history of taking his moment in acknowledgment of these awards, says Billboard.

If Dylan travels to Stockholm for the Nobel ceremony, it is not the first time he will be receiving an award from the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf. Back in 2000, Dylan also collected the Polar Music Prize.
