FIFA Latest News & Updates: England, Scotland Players Will Wear Poppies on Armistice Day Match

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association, commonly known by its acronym FIFA, has banned players from wearing any poppies, because the world governing body prohibits any political, religious, and commercial messages being displayed on the field. Despite the threat, England and Scotland both insisted their players to wear poppies on their shirt.

The Sun reported that Football Association chiefs were all slammed down after failing to stand up to FIFA's heartless football poppy ban. After the sport's governing body ruled it a political message, England and Scotland star players have been barred from wearing the poppy symbol on their shirts in next week's World Cup qualifier.

The Royal British Legion also called on the bureaucrats to acknowledge the poppy as a sign of pride in the sacrifice of servicemen and women for more than a century. However, FIFA seemed to not care about it. According to the Daily Record, the poppy trademark is not about triumphalism but it is the opposite. The poppy does not celebrate a win but actually honoring what has been lost by everyone.

The issue now is becoming an annual dilemma and it's as if common sense has been thrown out of the window. Many Football clubs are shamed into having poppies stitched onto their strips. Players are vilified for refusing to wear them. The displays get more spectacular, and with every one of them, it diminishes the real sentiment behind it. People believed that the reason they insisted about the poppies trademark is because it's all about remembering.

However, Express reported that the truth seems to have been lost amid the squabble between football authorities. Among the issues between them is whether or not the players can wear poppies on their armbands when they compete in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley this Friday evening.

If any individual footballer wishes to wear and display a poppy during a game staged on or close to November 11, they should be allowed to.

The opposite is also true. Any player who would rather not display or wear a poppy should be able to refrain without a deluge of criticism crashing onto their shoulders.
